HOW TO WALK BETTER
Share
Regardless of whether you’re carrying 50 pounds of weight on your head, or wearing a simple cap, you can improve on your walking:
· Always warm up or stretch first,
· Use a heel-toe type gait. That is, don’t place your front foot down flat, but instead land on your heel and roll forward to your toe. That way you avoid shuffling which causes injuries.
· Swing your arms freely above your waist so that with each swing your elbows are bending at a 90 degree angle with your hand moving up toward your face. Be careful not to move your arms across your body in a twisting motion.
· Hold your head up, allowing for natural curves in your neck and upper and lower back. Don’t lean excessively forward or back as you walk.
Keep your legs moving smoothly in sync and not over reaching, which puts extra stress on your muscles and joints.
